Fleming Construction is known throughout the New Orleans area for its expertise in asphalt paving and concrete roadway construction. The company, in business since 1954, completes projects large and small across the metro New Orleans region.
Fleming recently had the opportunity to call on QSM for sewer and drainage on job sites in St. Tammany Parish and in Orleans.
In Orleans, Fleming was contracted to complete a sewer rehabilitation project adjacent to Press Park in Gentilly. This area, near Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO), was heavily damaged during Hurricane Katrina.
Fleming is working for the Orleans Parish Sewerage & Water Board. The contract calls for restoration of existing gravity sewer mains. Fleming is excavating and replacing manholes, improving sewer flow control, trenching, backfilling and compacting soil, and making point repairs at various sites throughout the area.
In St. Tammany, Fleming called on QSM to provide drainage materials for a new roadway construction project near Covington. This project, slated to cost $1.3 million, features construction of a roundabout where Ochsner Blvd, Francis Rd., and Bootlegger Rd. all meet.
Roundabouts are not common in this area, but they’re being seen more frequently on Louisiana roadways. There are three existing roundabouts in St. Tammany parish, all built by LADOTD, but this is the first one built by the parish, itself, and there are plans for more.
Engineers cite statistics that roundabouts are more user-friendly to traffic, and improve traffic flow and reduce accidents. The increase in roundabouts in St. Tammany reflects a growing national trend.
Paul Ramagos, of Fleming, worked with Jonathan Wilhite from QSM to order and organize delivery of catch basins, HDPE pipe and ACCMP.
Says Ramagos of QSM, “They’re very easy to work with; on-time deliveries, excellent customer service, very reliable.”
Joe Malley, Vice President at Fleming agrees, “I’ve been working with these guys for a fair amount of time. They do a good job of helping you get the right products on the job sites, when you need them. They’ve always got answers to my questions, and if they don’t know something for sure, they don’t feed me a line, they get the right answer and help me figure things out.”
Fleming Construction, located in Kenner, LA, employs more than 200 people. Bonded at a capacity of more than $60 million, Fleming is capable of providing expertise in asphalt paving, concrete paving, underground utilities, water lines, sewer lines, drainage and site prep.
The company has performed work for municipalities throughout South Louisiana, as well as the State Department of Transportation Development, the Corps of Engineers, and The Sewer & Water Board.
