Beverly Consruction, Inc. of Bridge City, LA, is currently on the job site at Parc des Familles on the West Bank of Jefferson Parish. It’s a massive job, to be completed in several phases, that will result in an expansive green space where New Orleans area residents can enjoy the outdoors.

Beverly is serving as the general contractor in this phase, and it’s customer is Jefferson Parish.

“We like to work with QSM,” says project manager Byron Dupre, “because they know all the parish regulations and specifications. That makes them easy to work with.”

Parc des Familles is a 610-acre site on Leo Kerner Parkway near Crown Point. It features nearly 400 acres of wetlands, and construction is being financed by a bond issue approved by voters in Jefferson Parish.

When complete, Parc des Familles will include a reception hall, walking trails, a conservation area and botanical gardens. It already is home to baseball and football fields, and a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office station for the 3rd District.

The park is the largest in Jefferson Parish, and second only to City Park within the Greater New Orleans area.

Among the tasks in Phase 2, Beverly was called on to extend an existing roadway build a 2,000 foot long boardwalk, construct pavilion restroom facilities, two paved parking lots and a picnic area.

The project was designed by Meyer Engineers & Architects of Metairie.

Beverly began construction in May, and expects this phase to be complete by February, 2015.

When asked if there were any particular challenges on this job, Dupre said, “Beverly is good at all of this type of work. But, let me tell you, it’s been interesting for us to lay all this drainage pipe through a virtual swamp. The wildlife in the area is impressive. We’ve seen deer, plenty of snakes, and frogs like you wouldn’t believe — some as big as small dogs,” he said.

But, Dupre says the project is moving along as expected, and he thinks the area will be a boon to the West Bank, and a resource for the population of Greater New Orleans.

The project called for reinforced concrete pipe, pre-cast catch basins and castings.
