When the Catholic High Bears open football for the 2014 season, they’ll do so on a newly redesigned and resurfaced field. Catholic High, of Baton Rouge, contracted Clear River Construction of Flowood, MS, to install the new facility.
The project is in the final stages now, with completion expected on Sept. 1st. When completed, Catholic High will boast a new facility with extensive and innovative drainage improvements. New features include: a Hydraway sub-surface flat drainage system, a newly resurfaced track, and the installation of field turf.
“They’re really excited about this system.” says John Thompson, project manager at Clear River Construction.
Clear River is a general contractor licensed in Louisiana and Mississippi. One of it’s specialties is to build and resurface sports facilities.
“We’re capable of anything related to civil and commercial construction, especially as it relates to drainage,” says Thompson. “We work on Corps of Engineers projects, and other heavy civil, but I guess you can say we specialize in football fields and running tracks. It’s a niche we’re proud to serve.”
During this project, Clear River cleared the land, performed grading, installed sub-surface stone for sub-grading, installed all of the drainage, including the Hydraway system, and laid the asphalt track.
Clear River hired Beynon Sports to manufacture and install the synthetic track. They also worked with FieldTurf for the synthetic grass surface on the football field. Both firms are part of the Tarkett Sports Company family.
Thompson says Hydraway is a key component in any project of this scale. “The Hydraway drain system is our Number 1 flat drain. It’s a very effective system and a highly reliable material. It truly, 100% improves drainage in sports applications.”
As to working with QSM, Thompson says it’s been a good experience. “This is our first partnership with QSM. I dealt with Philip Clement out of their Baton Rouge office. He’s been great to work with. He’s knowledgable about the products, and was always available whenever we needed anything.”
On the Catholic High project, Clear River ordered Hydraway, HDPE pipe, and A-2000 PVC.
Clear River currently has five sports facility projects underway: two in Louisiana, three in Mississippi.
QSM is proud to supply sports teams at high schools, colleges and professional facilities across Louisiana. Hydraway is one of it’s most innovative and reliable products. Call QSM for more information about the Hydraway Turf System.
