Construction is underway in Luling, LA on a $6.5 million building for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. The building will consolidate multiple divisions into one location, and provide a state-certified training facility for law enforcement.

The building is located on 2.5 acres on Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway.

Above ground, there are many innovations, and new technology. But the innovations don’t stop there. Below ground, QSM provided this project with DuroMaxx pipe.

DuroMaxx steel-reinforced polyethylene pipe (SRPE) is a high-strength, steel ribbed drainage technology. The High-Density Polyethylene Resin (HDPE) provides durability. Steel ribs provide strength. It’s this combination of materials that allowed QSM to offer an innovative engineering solution for drainage, and it saves money.

DuroMaxx, engineered and manufactured by Contech, is a drainage product built for service and long life. Its steel wall construction will not creep nor buckle, and its stress rated materials provide predictable engineering properties that allow engineers to spec with confidence.

What’s more? Its bell and spigot design achieves a level of performance that sets it apart from conventional storm drain products. In short: DuroMaxx is designed to meet the highest standards of performance for storm drains.

How Does DuroMaxx Save Money?

Higher flow rates: Higher flow rates are achieved with DuroMaxx’s polyethylene water way wall. This provides engineers with design options to reduce pipe diameter.

Lighter weight: DuroMaxx is light weight, which means it can be easily handled and installed, often eliminating the need for heavy construction equipment. Lighter loads also make for less cost in freight and delivery. DuroMaxx helps contractors save on manpower and machinery.

Fittings & Installation: DuroMaxx is compatible with a full range of fabricated fittings such as elbows, tees, wyes, slope junctions and reducers. It comes in standard lengths of 14-ft and 24-ft with both bell and spigot and welded coupler joints.

In the St. Charles Sheriff’s office project, reinforced concrete pipe originally was considered for the project, but DuroMaxx steel reinforced pipe was suggested as an alternative. It’s water tight joint performance, long lengths and ease in handling and installation made for a cost effective alternative.

Murray Architects of Destrehan designed the training facility. Aegis Construction of LaPlace is the general contractor on the job, and Peck’s Plumbing was the site prep and drainage contractor that worked to install the DuroMaxx.

In addition to DuroMaxx, QSM provided Peck’s with more than 500-ft of 18” diameter A-2000 PVC. The DuroMaxx pipe was installed in a straight run of 170-ft at 48-inch diameter.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s training facility is expected to be completed by June, 2015.
