Darin Helm is running a construction project at one of East Jefferson’s most high profile locations.
The Tolmas Tract, the largest expanse of undeveloped land on Veteran’s Blvd in Metairie, will soon be the site of a new commercial development and some additional homes and apartments for the surrounding neighborhood.
Helm works as a project manager for KASS Brothers Construction. KASS is handling all site prep and utilities infrastructure as a sub to Jack Treuting Contractors on the Tolmas Tract project.
His team was responsible for drainage, site prep, street work, curbs and sidewalks on the job.
When asked why he likes dealing with QSM, Helm said, “because they are attentive to our needs. They understand what it’s like to be a contractor.”
He says, “QSM has been very good to KASS through the years, and that’s why we keep working with them on civil construction projects throughout the area. They’re a great group to work with. Materials come to us on time, they’re accurate in reading design plans, and experts at structures.”
KASS hired QSM to provide A-2000 PVC drainage pipe, catch basins and castings.
Kass Bros has been in business for 65 years — performing site preparation work, concrete paving, underground utility work, demolition, and excavation for private and public entities, as well as providing sand and dump truck services to many larger contractors in the Metro New Orleans area.
Kass is licensed in Louisiana to perform the following:
The company is majority woman-owned and currently certified as a DBE through the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
Projects range in size from small residential jobs to large multi-million dollar commercial site work and public works projects. As Helm says, “We want to be known as the leader in civil sitework for the area. We’ve been in business for decades, and our attention to detail, safety and professionalism are what I think makes us a good fit for many projects.”
On this project, Helm says kudos should go to KASS Bros foremen Ronnie Dunshee and Brian Draugh. “We couldn’t have done this job without those guys. They led our crew in the field. They were on the job every day, and they’ve been a great asset to us all.”
