QSM supplied mission critical items to Bollinger Shipyards and SeaLevel Construction on two civil engineering projects aimed at providing enhanced protection to communities along the Louisiana coast.
QSM worked with Bollinger on the Morganza to the Gulf – Hurricane Protection Interim Flood Risk Reduction – Falgout Canal Flood Control project, and, … with SeaLevel on the Morganza project, and on the Lockport to Larose Valentine Return Levee Drainage Structure.
QSM supplied geotextile fabric and flap gates to these projects. On the Morganza project: QSM provided SeaLevel with 4,186 square yards of Huesker’s Stabilenka 1000/100 which is a high strength reinforcement geotextile fabric. The fabric was used on the Morganza project. Stabilenka’s purpose is to reinforce the base of the levee to provide additional strength.
Also at Morganza, QSM provided Bollinger with four 72-inch diameter Waterman cast iron flap gates.
The gates will be attached to a massive, steel swing gate that Bollinger currently is fabricating at its Amelia yard. The plan calls for setting this structure on barge at Bollinger’s facility in Amelia, after which, it will be towed to it’s install location in Terrebonne Parish.
Both projects are part of expansive civil engineering efforts, to “save our coast.” — wherein design, construction, and installation of earthen levees is coupled with built structures to provide fortifications for the vulnerable Louisiana coastline.
The projects are being funded by CPRA — The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority.
QSM represents Waterman Industries and Huesker in Louisiana.
