The Costco Wholesale Corp. project is one of the most talked about and recognizable job sites in the New Orleans area. QSM provided drainage materials to the job through its customer, Cooper Contracting Group, of Harvey, LA.
Cooper Contracting was subcontracted by Durr Heavy Construction, LLC to perform site utilities (water, sewer, drainage) on the project.
Julie Cooper, president of Cooper Contracting, says her company chose QSM, “because they provide accurate material take-offs which helps us in the bidding process.”
“QSM works with you to pre-order materials and deliver the materials on time to meet construction schedules.”
The Costco project represents a much desired change in the New Orleans consumer marketplace. This will be the first new Big Box retailer in New Orleans. It also is Costco’s first foray into the Louisiana market, and its largest store in the Southeast (including the Texas area).
The 148,000-square-foot store on a 14.7 acre site will cost approximately $45 million once complete. The City of New Orleans and the New Orleans Business Alliance worked with Costco to bring the project to fruition.
One of the most important elements of the design was its site work and drainage. The area first had to be raised to meet FEMA requirements to mitigate flooding. Then catch basins and drainage needed to be installed to meet design demands on the property.
The store is expected to open in fall 2013.
QSM provided the following items this project:
All products used were engineer specified, and total construction time on this job for Cooper was about 2.5 months.
