When Evan Fortier founded EvCo Development, he set out with a vision and a plan. That plan was to start small, build relationships, and grow based on the trust earned from jobs well done. Looking back on EvCo’s growth in the construction industry, it sure looks like he’s hit his mark.
QSM’s Corey Cloninger had the pleasure to meet EvCo’s Evan Fortier and MJ Sampognaro during the past few months. Corey called on EvCo in order to provide sales and service to several projects in south Louisiana, and just like that, … another relationship was born; this time with QSM supplying EvCo with cost effective and innovative site solutions.
“When Corey first approached us, and it was the right time, right place. We had several projects all set to start, and we required site solutions on each one,” said Fortier. “I’m from the school of thought where I think everyone deserves a shot, so we gave Corey a shot to win our business, and he proved to be responsive, and he helped us accomplish just what we’ve set out to do.”
QSM supplied materials on three projects …
These include: a private, 13-acre pond in Church Point, LA, on which QSM supplied HDPE pipe and Nyloplast® catch basins; an extensive drainage project at Carencro High School, where QSM supplied HP pipe, Nyloplast® catch basins, and frames and grates; and WSLP 108 (West Shore of Lake Pontchartrain 108), on which QSM is supplying more than 520 linear feet of 72-inch corrugated metal pipe where it is building a 1.5 mile long protection levee.
These three projects represent the width and depth of EvCo Development’s service capabilities, and a nice progression of scope from the private pond, to a larger public school board project, and then moving up to a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project where the goal is to build flood protection levees on the west shore of Lake Pontchartrain in St. John Parish.
When asked why he chose QSM, and specifically some of these drainage materials, Fortier said, “it’s not that hard to explain. QSM approached us with a wide variety of solutions, and managed their time and logistics well, and that helps us to do one of the main things we like to promise to our customers, which is … maintain and deliver efficiency.”
Through the years, EvCo has grown from a one-man show, performing mostly residential construction, then embarked on its vision of subdivision development, and more recently has expanded services yet again to include commercial and governmental construction projects.
EvCo’s service area extends east from Texas, across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and into the Florida panhandle.
When asked about Nyloplast®, Fortier said he loves the simplicity of it, and the simplicity of installation. He also says Nyloplast® is great for its durability, and that customers have virtually no concerns when it comes to Nyloplast® and deterioration.
EvCo also has installed HDPE and Nyloplast® at an Amazon facility, and at some other projects in the Slidell area of St. Tammany Parish.
MJ Sampognaro, EvCo’s CFO, told us how he’s seen EvCo grow through the years.
He said, “we started as a small company with a big vision, and we’ve aimed to manage a steady, yet conservative growth plan.
“Since that time, we’ve hired estimators, project managers, and staff that has allowed us to achieve our vision, and we’re not done yet! I think we will always do residential and residential development projects, but now we also have the know-how, experience, and we’ve built the expertise to manage construction projects such as large-scale apartment buildings, municipal, work, and some large government projects. This mix is good for us.”
On QSM, Sampognaro says, “working with QSM has been good for us. They performed exactly as they told us they would, they helped us maintain our project timelines, and they worked with us to provide and deliver innovative solutions, that helped customers save time and money.”
