Lafourche Parish roads are going through a $6 million makeover aimed at improving drainage across a wide area as part of the Lafourche Parish Overlay Project.

Barriere Construction is working with Duplantis Design Group at Plaisance Dr., Hyland St., North Willow St. and Twin Oaks St.

The project calls for road and drainage improvements.

Some roads will only receive an overlay, while others, with a poor base and problems beyond the surface will be reconstructed. Barrier is currently working on the overlay project.

Drainage improvements are focused on adding newer and bigger culverts under the roads.

This portion of the project began in mid-January and will run through the end of April.

The main goal of the project is to increase safety and improve overall quality of life for those living, working and traveling through Lafourche parish.

Steve Navare, project supervisor for Barriere, says, “working with QSM has been great. We ordered all the pipe through them, it was a large order of pipe, but in many sections. QSM did a great job of arranging everything so we could work quickly from section to section, and keep this job on track.”

Barriere ordered 3,000 linear feet of asphalt coated corrugated metal pipe (round and arch). They also ordered pre cast catch basins, reinforced concrete pipe (arch) and a Waterman Sluice gate.

Pipe sizes were 24-inch, 30-inch and 36-inch diameter.
