Beverly Construction is no stranger to large projects, and they’re no stranger to soil conditions, drainage requirements and site prep in Southeast Louisiana.
As such, the company was called on to perform site prep and drainage on the new Walmart location at the Southwest corner of I-10 and Bullard Ave. in East New Orleans. Groundbreaking occurred at the end of April, 2013. Beverly started work soon after.
Brad Caillouet, Chief Estimator at Beverly, called Jonathan Wilhite at QSM as soon as he learned they would bid for the Walmart project.
“We’ve been working with QSM for more than 10 years,” says Caillouet. “They’re always on top of things. Always on top of any changes, and they know all the requirements on a parish-by-parish basis. The guys at QSM do their homework.”
Doing homework is part of the job, says Wilhite. “We know our customers need products delivered quickly, and we know fast service means cost savings to them, that’s why we strive to stay one step ahead. We answer their questions in a timely manner, and we’re always willing to work in tandem with our customers and the engineers.”
Working in tandem is one thing Caillouet says QSM does well. “Challenges on most projects have to do with grade changes, especially in pre-cast structures,” says Caillouet. “QSM spends a lot of time with us on the front end to help us be a better provider. They pitch in when we need them to with the engineers, and that helps us work efficiently.”
On this Walmart job, QSM provided Beverly with drainage and sewer materials.
Beverly performed all site prep, including 180,000 cubic yards of sand, installed drainage and sewer lines, and provided earthworks services for soil and erosion control.
On this project, Beverly used:
