Grand Isle Shipyards, Inc. a full service construction company to the onshore and offshore oil and gas industry, called on QSM to provide drainage pipe and specialty, custom built reinforced concrete structures for a project at Bollinger Fourchon.
GIS served as the GC on this job, an expansion project at Bollinger’s dry dock and fabrication facility located at Port Fourchon.
The Oil & Gas services industry is very strong right now in South Louisiana, with many new rigs being brought into the Gulf of Mexico. This activity has resulted in several expansion projects at Port Fourchon. It’s also resulted in Fourchon being the main port of services for nearly 95 percent of all rig activity in the Gulf.
Bollinger is in the process of constructing four new dry docks able to service 300-ft-plus vessels.
Whenever new docks are constructed, new dry docks are installed, and when fabrication facilities are expanded, drainage and utility infrastructure must be addressed. Quality Sitework provides drainage, sewer, erosion control and water control products on many of these crucial industrial jobs.
In the case at Bollinger Fouchon, QSM provided RCP drainage and custom-built RCP structures with unique A-lok boots to Grand Isle Shipyards. Custom-built precast structures were a main part of this job. QSM coordinated efforts in regard to these specialty designed items, and worked closely with the contractor and manufacturer to satisfy engineering requirements and delivery.
Angelette-Picciola was the design engineer on the project.
Clint Gray, a project manager at GIS, says, “working with Angelette-Picciola and with QSM has been great. They both were always available to answer any questions we had, and they both were fully capable of addressing any issues we faced on the job site.”
When asked what he thinks is a strong suit of working with QSM, Gray said, “great customer service, prompt response, and importantly — availability.”
These attributes are at the core of QSM’s philosophy. “Providing good customer service, is without doubt, one of our main points of pride,” says CEO Josh Loeske. “Best way we can do that is to be there when our customers need us. Whether that means having someone in the office who knows the ins-and-outs of your project, or being there to meet you in the field at the job site for deliveries and coordination — we want everyone to know we go the extra mile to make your day run more efficiently.”
In the end, that’s just what happened at Bollinger Fourchon for GIS. Alex Romero and Steven Gros, of QSM, worked with Gray and his team at GIS to assure timely deliveries, and accurate specifications on the custom-built boxes.
The structures were built by Design PreCast in Gulfport, MS. All told, QSM delivered 13 boxes of varying sizes to GIS at Bollinger Fourchon.
The A-Lok boot or gasket is a flexible compression connector specifically engineered to produce a positive watertight seal for pipes entering precast concrete structures and the structure itself.
It is used for connecting RCP (Reinforced Concrete Pipe) and RCAP (Reinforced Concrete Arch Pipe) to precast storm structures.
Typically to connect the RCP/RCAP to precast concrete inlets, a contractor must leave the excavated hole around the inlet open and vulnerable to inclement weather for laborers to grout or pour a collar where the pipe enters or exits the structure.
Design Precast’s storm connector eliminates the need for additional labor by providing a rubber compression joint cast directly into the structure at DPPI’s manufacturing plant.
This makes the connection as easy as joining pipe together. It saves time, labor costs and allows for immediate backfill once the pipe is connected with the structure.
QSM provides custom-built structures for drainage and infrastructure projects across Louisiana. It works closely with Design Precast to coordinate manufacturing and delivery of specialty engineered products such as these structures.
Bollinger Fourchon is expanding its operations to service the increased deep water drilling activity in the Gulf of Mexico.
Grand Isle Shipyards, Inc. is uniquely positioned to provide construction expertise and project management to companies like Bollinger.
