Pointe Coupee Parish in Louisiana had a need to address long-term erosion issues in one of its wide-mouth drainage ditches. An on-going issue, which had flummoxed parish officials and area residents through the years.
QSM had just the solution, with Inland Tarp & Liner’s ITL RCR -12®.
In the previous five years, Pointe Coupee Parish had tried various methods such as rip rap, and erosion control blankets, yet to no avail. None of those approaches were able to halt the widening of the ditch, and the channel continued to erode.
QSM Sees the Project Goal
The goal was to implement a low-cost, permanent erosion control solution with a hard armor system that would protect the channel and outfall, and which would prevent further damage and loss.
QSM knew right away how to solve this problem, and its team, led by Wes LeBlanc, made the recommendation. “I suggested we deploy Inland Tarp & Liner’s RCR® solution,” says Wes. “It’s a cost-effective way to address long-term erosion concerns, it is know to reduce or eliminate repeated repair costs, and it is easy to install, so time and labor costs are saved on, too.”
Inland Tarp & Liner’s RCR® Provides Long-term Solution
Pointe Coupee Parish’s use of ITL RCR-12® to line this ever-widening channel proved to be right solution to a five year problem. Rapid deployment and effortless connections significantly reduced the project timeline, completing the 5,400 SF installation in just three days (including site preparation). After installation, the innovative use of a sprinkler system for hydration contributed to the material’s successful hardening.
Of the alternatives considered (traditional concrete, articulated concrete block, and fabric formed concrete), RCR-12® emerged as the best choice for this project due to several key factors …
One standout feature of this project was the ability of the municipality to self-perform the installation. This demonstrated one of the significant value additions RCR- 12®offers for similar municipal and city projects. The hard armor solution provided by RCR-12® is in place to effectively halt erosion, and prevent further damage to the property and termination pond.
