Geotextile Fabric Helps Pro Volleyball Tour Stop

Share in:

The AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour made its return to New Orleans for the first time since 1999, and Quality Sitework played a roll in helping it come together.

While Friday, the scheduled opening day, was near perfect weather, torrential rains on Thursday afternoon and through the night hampered final prep efforts on construction of the courts and grandstands.

Local municipalities, the AVP Tour and leaders of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation met to discuss what they could do to make sure the sand courts would be dry enough to play on, and that the surrounding pedestrian areas for spectators would be safe, as well.

That’s when they called QSM and for help, and QSM was happy to oblige.

Tour officials and the Sports Foundation staff wanted to be sure the professional players got the best possible surface. GNOSF and local municipal leaders also wanted to be sure they provided a good experience for fans and spectators.

QSM was Johnny on the Spot because it had product in stock. The company was able to quickly provided the tour stop with more than 3,500 yards of high strength geotextile fabric.

Local officials know QSM as a reliable supplier of geotextile and site prep materials. One call to QSM, and almost within the hour, crews were moving earth, grading dirt, and rolling out geotextile fabric that was deployed to alleviate any concerns with the venue turning into a muddy, soupy mess.

As a precaution, the AVP tour delayed play for one day to fully let the area dry out. Saturday and Sunday saw olympians and dozens of professional beach volleyball teams compete in the first tour stop of the summer.

There’s a big volleyball following in Louisiana. There are two beach facilities in the New Orleans area, two on New Orleans’ Northshore in St. Tammany Parish, and two in Baton Rouge. Crowds were large both days, and the weather cooperated for the rest of the time.

The event was brought to Kenner with a combined effort of the GNOSF, the City of Kenner and the staff at Coconut Beach Volleyball.

QSM supplies a wide variety of innovative & cost effective sports field drainage solutions.
