Huesker’s HaTelit® is playing an important role on a mill and overlay project in Abita Springs.
St. Tammany is addressing resurfacing projects across the parish, and it’s doing so with a keen interest in reducing cracks on asphalt roadways. Huesker’ HaTelit® — a self-adhesive, flexible, high-tensile reinforcement grid made from high-modulus polyester yarn laminated with bitumen, is ideal for use on asphalt mill and overlay projects, and on concrete pavement.HaTelit® retards reflective cracking, and extends the service life of pavement. The use of HaTelit® also prevents moisture or frost from infiltrating into lower asphalt layers — an added benefit in the humid climate of south Louisiana.
The Allen Rd. mill and overlay in Abita marks the fourth application of HaTelit® on a project in St. Tammany. In this instance, Huey P. Stockstill, LLC installed 25,050 square yards of HaTelit®. Production went smoothly as the grid was rolled atop the base layer.

After HaTelit® is installed, the rehabilitated pavement can be directly overlaid with fresh asphalt, producing roads without cracks. The use of Huesker’s HaTelit® grid in between asphalt layers represents an effective method to prevent reflective cracking.
No additional spraying of bitumen is required, because Huesker’s grid sheets are layered with bitumen. This helps extend roadway maintenance intervals by a factor of 3-4.
