Gene Robichaux, Vice President of Low Land Construction Co., Inc., says he and his company go “a ways back” with QSM. “I’ve been buying from them since they got started,” says Robichaux. “I was one of their first customers when they opened in Schriever.”

It was no surprise when Robichaux called on QSM to provide products on a Levee Rehab project in Lafourche Parish. The project, called Company Canal Claudet Return Levee (or, the Lockport to Larose Levee) called for a combination of Low Land’s expertise, QSM’s products, and the knowledge shared between them of how best to quickly find solutions on jobs of this scope.

The project called for Low Land to first raise the levee, and then to install a series of drainage pipes and a number of sluice gates. Low Land contracted with QSM to deliver 200 linear feet of 48-inch reinforced concrete pipe (RCP), Waterman Sluice Gates and extensions, and Terratex GS Woven Geotextile Fabric.

The project had a budget of $300,000, and a time-frame of 90 days.

Low Land won the construction bid from the N. Lafourche Levee District.

“Lafourche Parish knows we’re qualified and that we do high quality work,” says Robichaux. “We know all about these types of projects because this is right in our back yard. We work extensively in drainage and in municipal works projects throughout Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes.”

Robichaux says his firm performs public and private works, with about 50 percent of the work occurring in Fourchon, and 50 percent in other parts of Lafourche and in Terrebonne.

Low Land is a family-held civil construction firm located in Thibodaux, LA. With roots dating back to the 1950s, Low Land was founded in 1972. The company prides itself on providing vital services, and in calling on its expertise to solve some of South Louisiana’s most vexing land loss, water control and erosion problems.

When asked about Low Land’s secret to longevity, Robichaux said, “It’s all about examining the specifics of each project and coming up with a game plan. We keep our prices as low as we can. We use local employees, and we use local vendors,” which is one of the reasons Low Land turns so often to Quality Sitework. Among others, he says, “they’re the quickest in the business. No matter how you try to reach them: phone, fax, email β€” they get right back to you, and they’ve always got the answers. I’d tell anyone: Quality Sitework is responsive to their customers’ needs, and I can attest that they have great products.”

He pointed to this recent job as an example of QSM’s value-added service.

“We ordered these sluice gates from Waterman. But, we needed additional parts to accomplish our task. I got with Quality Sitework, and they helped us work with Waterman USA to identify the stem extensions. Let me tell you: these things fit like a sock. It was perfect. They were very helpful, but it’s like that with them every time.”

In addition to levee work, Low Land Construction specializes in pile driving, bulkhead construction, pump stations and drainage.
