The new Walgreen’s facility at Clearview Blvd. and Airline Drive in Metairie, required an underground detention system to enable the site to comply with storm water runoff regulations, and to facilitate optimum drainage for the area.

Lanco Construction was awarded the project as general contractor, and they knew just who to call for the site work and drainage portion of the job.

Durr Heavy Construction specializes in site prep throughout Metro New Orleans and South Louisiana. Lanco called on Durr to handle this job, and Durr went straight to QSM to order drainage products such as a 24″ CMP detention system, A-2000 Corrugated PVC, and precast catch basins.

“As soon as I noticed the complexity on this job with the underground detention system, I called QSM,” said Nathan J. Landry, Senior Project Manager at Durr. “QSM specializes in handling complex orders like this one. We’ve come to rely on their years of experience in the industry, and their ability to swiftly head off any potential conflicts that can easily be overlooked.”

Durr works with QSM to provide storm drainage supplies on many jobs. Says Landry, “Working with them makes it much easier to produce. They allow me to focus on putting the work in place in accordance with our project goals.”

The goal for this project was to provide a quality storm drainage scope … safely, quickly, correctly, and in accordance with plans drawn up by the civil engineers to the satisfaction of the owner.

The drainage and site prep aspect of this project was approximately $200,000. Landry says working with QSM is great because, “they provide excellent customer service, and great attention to detail.”

David Beach, sales leader for the New Orleans market at Quality Sitework Materials, says, detention systems are one of the company’s specialties. “We appreciate when orders like this come in. We know our customers trust us with complex material requirements, and we take that trust to heart.”

“Working with Durr is always a good experience,” says Beach. “They’re well prepared. They keep the project in motion. They’re quick to ask questions of us, and provide us with valuable feedback. Its communication like that that helps us provide better service to our customers.”

Advantages of using a detention system in your site drainage include:

  • Custom design and layout – Detention systems are unique designs based on the storage needs, parcel dimensions, environmental regulations
  • Ease of installation – Components are made especially for detention systems. This means they fit together perfectly. Few if any field modifications are required. The pipe and components help speed handling and placement. Quality joints that are easy-to-assemble help make installation a less time-consuming process. Contractors spend their time completing the system, not making field modifications.
  • Cost-effective installation – Detention systems and components that are specifically engineered allow for low installed cost and long life resulting in cost-effective installations.
