When SiteCo, LLC needed drainage materials on two high-profile projects, they called QSM to provide solutions.
SiteCo was contracted to perform site prep at Trinity Episcopal School in New Orleans, and at a new fire station in Gretna.
Both projects called for specialty products, with goals set to improve stormwater collection, and to minimize stormwater runoff at each location.
The projects span both sides of the Mississippi River, and are located in the metro region’s two most populated parishes — places where drainage and stormwater runoff take high priority.SiteCo, LLC worked under general contractor Ryan Gootee at Trinity Episcopal School to install a specialized stormwater management system.
As part of the overall Campus Master Plan and construction of the new athletic turf field, Trinity wanted to do something to improve drainage at its Jackson Ave. campus, and also something to mitigate stormwater runoff.
Engineers and contractors recommended stormwater management — to fit in with, and to aid the city’s drainage systems with water retention.
The system is designed to collect and hold water temporarily underneath the turf field rather than allowing it to flow rapidly into the public utility system.
This approach reduces flooding in the area.
QSM provided the following, as the stormwater management solution:
Excavation and land preparation took place earlier this year, and drainage components were installed in November. As the project nears completion, the turf field is ready for play, and it makes for a noticeable and attractive addition to the campus landscape.
Normally, most people wouldn’t be concerned with, or even understand what sort of drainage is going on underneath the surface, but since stormwater management and flooding are big issues in the City of New Orleans, Trinity Episcopal School took the opportunity to use this as a teachable moment …
Students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade were given an in-person, hands-on educational experience where they learned about the new turf field (same as the New Orleans Saints field), the importance of drainage components underneath, and they were taught about stormwater runoff and retention.
Students were taught about building with sustainable practices in mind.
SiteCo worked closely with QSM and Ryan Gootee General Contractors.
Meanwhile, … on the West Bank of Jefferson parish, SiteCo, LLC worked on drainage installation at a new fire station — now under construction in Gretna.
The station is located at 1200 Lafayette Street, just off the West Bank Expressway, and on the main road that leads into Gretna’s downtown. This station is a vital component in the city’s fire protection plan.
The current station, built in 1948, is a community icon.
However, the facility is too small for the needs of this thriving community, and voters approved a spending plan to fund the new construction.
SiteCo called on QSM to supply precast structures, A-2000 pipe, and ACO Trench Drain.
The new station is being built adjacent to the current one, and when complete it will be state-of-the-art.
Drainage components used on this project will mitigate stormwater issues, and the new station will provide Gretna’s Fire Department with a much larger space to house trucks, firefighters, and administrative offices.
SiteCo, LLC was founded to address critical infrastructure needs, and in just the past few years has made a good name for itself in civil construction.
The company specializes in grading, excavation, site prep, and installation of public utilities services.
Headquartered in Elmwood, SiteCo serves general contractors, engineers, architects, and building owners across south Louisiana.
QSM provides innovative and cost effective solutions to the civil construction trades. From traditional drainage to highly specialized products, QSM is the one to call for drainage solutions, erosion control, and stormwater management.
