Brunt Construction Installs TrueGrid Paving at St. Tammany Parish Dispatch Center

Independence-based Brunt Construction Co. is almost done with an impressive project in St. Tammany Parish. Brunt installed TrueGrid paving across a large area at the new Parish Communications call dispatch center.
The 16,000 sq. ft. building has been under construction for about one year. Brunt won the bid process in 2017. The building is located in Lacombe.
When the doors open, the parish’s new 911 communications headquarters will be one of the more futuristic operations on the North Shore.
In fact, innovation at the new facility starts literally at the entrance.Brunt installed more than 30,000 sq. ft. of TrueGrid permeable paving on this job. It is the largest installation of TrueGrid to date in Louisiana, and the first TrueGrid installation in St. Tammany parish.
“The (TrueGrid) installation was very easy to handle,” said Darrell Papenhausen of Brunt Construction. “We started out right with straight lines, and the process went smooth.”
The site sits on more than 2 acres of land off Louisiana 434 and just north of Interstate 12. TrueGrid was used to cover the front parking lot, and an expansive parking area at the rear of the facility. The surface provides 100% permeable parking, which will absorb water and produce zero runoff.

Millions of square feet of TrueGrid have been installed nationwide. It’s become a popular solution on new and renovation construction in Orleans parish. This marks the first time it’s been used in St. Tammany Parish.
Said Papenhausen, “We had other customers come to this site to see the TrueGrid, I think they were impressed with the system.”
Benefits of using TrueGrid as a parking or access road surface include: detention, durability, and dollars. TrueGrid can be installed with stormwater detention underneath, and the permeable surface facilitates the process. The product is durable and requires almost zero maintenance since TrueGrid encapsulates aggregate which prevents pulverization, eliminates dust, and reduces the need to constantly refill rock or stone.
Cost savings are achieved with TrueGrid because the surface provides better performance at a lower cost. It is ADA compliant, 100% permeable, and exceeds H20 / HS20 ratings.
TrueGrid can be installed at a rate of 1,000 sq. ft per man hour.
It comes in pre-assembled sheets, and is easy to work with and install. One truckload carries up to 48 palettes, and that’s equivalent to 23,808 sq. ft. of surface.
When asked about working with QSM, Brunt’s Papenhausen said, “QSM has been great. We’ve had good communication, and on site visits during the installation process.”
