Supplying the Foundation: QSM Supports Tulane’s Unified Green with Advanced Drainage Solutions

Tulane University’s Unified Green project marks a major milestone in reshaping the heart of its Uptown campus. Designed to seamlessly connect the historic Newcomb Quad and Berger Family Lawn, the initiative aims to create a unified, pedestrian-friendly green space for students, faculty, and visitors — a place for gathering, study, and recreation that also meets the challenges of New Orleans’ unique environment.

But this transformation is more than just landscaping. At the core of the project lies a highly engineered stormwater management solution, developed by a team that includes Tulane’s facilities experts, engineers, architects, and trusted suppliers such as QSM.

The new underground stormwater system — capable of storing nearly 440,000 gallons of water, about the size of an Olympic swimming pool — will help the university mitigate flooding, manage runoff, and protect its cherished green spaces for years to come.

QSM is proud to have supported this effort by supplying a comprehensive suite of advanced drainage materials from ADS (Advanced Drainage Systems). Our contribution included more than 2,300 linear feet of A2000 pipe (in sizes from 4 to 24 inches), reinforced concrete pipe, perforated pipe, and a range of specialty fittings and accessories.

In addition, QSM delivered dozens of pre-cast drain inlets, Nyloplast catch basins, manholes, ADA-compliant grates, and geotextile fabrics for soil stabilization.

The centerpiece of the system comprises two substantial ADS StormTech underground detention systems, which provide robust stormwater storage below the new green.

These systems are engineered for durability, efficiency, and ease of maintenance, which will help Tulane meet its sustainability targets while also maximizing the usability of campus spaces above ground.

The Unified Green project is a collaboration, which brought together Tulane’s facilities management, leading engineers and architects, ADS experts, and suppliers like QSM.
