QSM’s TJ Truxillo first started work on the Valhi Drainage project in October, 2017 It was then when he encountered project plans for an important drainage project in Terrebonne parish. Project design specs called for design and manufacturing of custom-made flap gates, and TJ began coordinating efforts with Waterman Valve, LLC.
Waterman is a leading provider of water control gates, valves, automated controls and accessories for water districts, utilities, flood control districts, and agricultural water users (growers, cooperatives).
QSM represents Waterman in Louisiana and southern Mississippi.
In this case, the Valhi project sought to construct three new pump stations west of the Valhi corridor, and would make use of flap gates with the express purpose to reduce flooding from backwater confluence, and to improve stormwater management.
Enter Delta Coast Consultants. Delta Coast, an engineering firm located in Houma, was tasked with design attributes of the Valhi Drainage Improvements Project, and its plan was to make use of nine 48” x 48” flap gates, which would be mounted to sheet pile wall.
As design engineer on the project, Delta Coast knew about the durability, reliability, and cost effectiveness built into Waterman’s products, and this was a prime consideration for the project.
QSM worked with Delta Coast during the design phase, and then continued that commitment by working closely with Low Land Construction, as it was awarded construction in April, 2019.
Low Land Construction specializes in heavy civil construction in South Louisiana. From pile driving, to site prep, to bridge construction, and culvert installation, Low Land is frequently seen on projects where drainage, and earth-moving are part of the plan.
In this case, Low Land was called on site to install the Waterman Gates. Low Land also was responsible for construction of lime stone pads, intake basins, cantilevered sheet pile walls, discharge pipes, suction intakes, mechanical, electrical, and lighting.
The Waterman gates — custom-built flap gates — were mounted to a sheet pile wall structure at the three separate pump station locations to enhance water control in the area.
Construction of this project has been completed, and QSM has worked with various entities involved in this project from start-to-finish.
